Congress MPs Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Lok Sabha debate on the proposed Anti-Paper Leak Bill, alleging that the new Education Minister, Pralhad Joshi, had expressed support for the release of convicts in the Bilkis Bano case. Priyanka Gandhi claimed she had video evidence to substantiate her remarks after Joshi demanded an apology and called for her suspension from the House. Rahul Gandhi backed her, alleging that appointing someone who “protects rapists” as Education Minister sent the wrong message. The BJP rejected the allegations, with Joshi insisting Priyanka Gandhi either apologise or prove her claims. The remarks refer to the release of the Bilkis Bano convicts in 2022, which was later quashed by the Supreme Court in 2024.
