More than 200 academicians have written an open letter to Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, objecting to her remarks during the Lok Sabha debate on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026. The letter follows Priyanka Gandhi’s reference to a “gau-mutra expert” while questioning the composition of the government’s education reform panel, a remark widely interpreted as targeting IIT Madras Director Prof V. Kamakoti. The signatories argued that scholars should be engaged through reasoned debate rather than labels, highlighting Kamakoti’s academic achievements and contributions to research and technology. They said Parliament should encourage informed discussion, stressing that criticism should address ideas and evidence instead of reducing scientists and academicians to caricatures.
