The Centre has introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, proposing tougher action against paper leaks and examination fraud. Introducing the Bill in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Jitendra Singh called it a “milestone legislation” aimed at protecting the future of students, announcing fast-track courts and a maximum jail term of 10 years for organised exam malpractice. He said the amendments strengthen the 2024 anti-paper leak law and reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring fair examinations. Singh also accused the previous UPA government of failing to enact a comprehensive law despite several paper leak incidents, claiming the Modi government has completed an “unfinished task” by creating a stronger legal framework to curb organised cheating and restore confidence in India’s examination system.
