Thousands of demonstrators marched through Quezon City during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s State of the Nation Address, accusing his administration of corruption, economic failures and aligning too closely with the United States. Protesters destroyed a Trump-Marcos effigy labelled ‘The Puppet and the Puppet Master’ and criticised Washington’s influence over Philippine policy. Police arrested 51 demonstrators, while lawyers said several detainees were minors. President Marcos defended his government’s anti-corruption efforts and foreign policy, as the protests highlighted growing political tensions, public dissatisfaction and debate over the country’s future direction.
