China has strongly criticised the United States over its reported decision to restrict imports of Chinese-made humanoid robots, accusing Washington of using “national security” as a pretext to target Chinese technology firms. Speaking at a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Beijing firmly opposes what it called the US overstretching the concept of national security. Mao argued that protectionist measures would not strengthen America’s competitiveness and would instead harm US businesses, consumers and global trade. The remarks come amid growing tensions between the world’s two largest economies as technology, artificial intelligence and advanced robotics become key battlegrounds in their strategic rivalry.
